Conor McGregor reportedly offered role in Game of Thrones

Conor McGregor has reportedly been offered a role in one of the two remaining seasons of Game of Thrones. An unnamed director of the show is allegedly a huge UFC fan and went out of his way to extend the opportunity to McGregor.

The Irish MMA star already knows Game of Thrones star Hafþór Júlíus “Thor” Björnsson, better known as The Mountain, as a video of them sparring went viral earlier this year. Slippery character, McGregor is. But if that bear of a man gets his big paws on Conor, it’s over. Incredible video if you haven’t seen it.

McGregor is nothing if not a master showman. As one of the most marketable individuals on the planet right now, it only makes sense that he would take his talents beyond the Octagon.

While it’s possible for some celebrity athletes to transcend the industry that made them famous – like The Rock AKA Dwayne Johnson, who, in addition to being the world’s highest paid actor in 2016 ($64.5 million), was recently voted “Sexiest Man Alive” by People Magazine. But for every Rock, there’s a Ronda.

Ronda Rousey was on top of the world just a year ago. She was a juggernaut in UFC with serious mainstream crossover appeal, someone with seemingly limitless earning potential. But then Holly Holmes knocked her out and her luster dissipated faster than high school kids at a party when the cops come.

After her performance in the Entourage movie, people realized she wasn’t a good actor (I mean, she played herself in the movie and still fucked it up) and the lucrative opportunities that had previously been afforded to her disappeared. She went into self-imposed exile and now exists as a cautionary tale of what happens when the entertainment industry bets big on the wrong horse.

Somehow, I don’t think that’s going to happen to McGregor.

He’s got too much sauce for that.
