UFC champ Brock Lesnar fined $250,000 and banned from fighting

The Nevada State Gaming Commission has voted to give superstar Brock Lesnar a 1 year suspension and $250K fine after testing positive for banned substances for his fight at UFC 200 last July. Lesnar will vacate his win against Mark Hunt from the July 9th contest.

Lesnar’s incredible career has spanned almost two decades with a heavy weight NCAA wresting championship, 4 WWE Wrestling Championships, and being UFC Heavy Weight Champion. Lesnar has been a literal pillar in the wrestling community for years and has never tested positive for any banned substances prior.

He tested positive for both Clomiphene and Hydroxy-Chomiphene, anti-estrogen drugs usually administered to women to increase fertility. The drugs also help increase fertility in men by blocking natural estrogen and increasing testosterone. As a PPE its intentions are to mask steroid use, increase testosterone and help reduce the side effects of some steroids. The sample Lesnar tested positive for was submitted June 28, 11 days prior to his fight with Hunt.
It will be interesting to see if Lesnar’s popularity and good standing in the world of collegiate wrestling, WWE, and UFC is affected by his suspension. Lesnar, by many, is considered a top athlete as he has been able to win a championship in 3 different sports.

He also, in 2004, made an NFL team as a defensive tackle, although he was cut just before the season started. In March of 2015, Lesnar was named a “True Athlete” in an article by The Guardian which highlighted whether or not Lesnar was given enough credit for being such an incredible and versatile athlete.

The fighter inside me wants to compete. The father and husband – I’m an older caveman now. I make wiser caveman decisions. So, I’m here to say my legacy in the octagon is over.

The news just broke, but let the reaction pour in. Will this hurt Lesnar’s reputation? Or can he power through this and continue to be a superstar?
