Darrelle Revis’ new locker room could be behind bars after alleged street fight

Given the fact that his name has never been associated with anything more controversial than a contract negotiation, it was quite the surprise when the news recently broke of New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis allegedly being involved in a physical altercation with three other men and then received multiple felony charges as a result.

As of right now, the exact details of this incident are still pretty murky as Revis’ lawyer is claiming that his client was actually the victim in this fight. But despite his lawyer’s defense, the fact that the cornerback was charged with multiple crimes after the alleged incident is not really making Revis look like a victim at all.

The official charges that have been filed against the Jets corner are two counts of aggravated assault, one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, one count of making terroristic threats, and one count of robbery. All of his current charges are classified as felonies except for the one that accuses him of making terroristic threats, which is a misdemeanor.

In regards to what actually went down on the night of the incident, the Pittsburgh Police have released a statement that includes details of what allegedly happened between Revis and his accusers.

“According to the investigation, a 22-year-old male from Kittanning was walking along E. Carson Street when he spotted a male who resembled Aliquippa native Darrelle Revis, a cornerback in the NFL. He asked if the man was Darrell Revis and he confirmed that he was.

The male began recording the interaction on his cellphone and continued following Revis. At some point, Revis snatched the cellphone away and attempted to delete the video.

Another 21-year-old male from Ross Township attempted to help the 22-year-old retrieve the cellphone. Revis then tossed the phone onto the roadway. A verbal argument followed.

A male came to assist Revis. Both the 22-year-old and the 21-year-old state they were punched then remember waking up to talk to police. Witnesses state the two were unconscious for about 10 minutes.

The officers viewed the cellphone video and confirmed that the person was Revis.”

Statement from the Pittsburgh Police

No one is condoning what Revis allegedly did that night. But from what the police statement reveals, it sounds like the cornerback may have been getting harassed by the men who are accusing him of attacking them.

His lawyer is claiming that Revis was in the area to look at a piece of property in the Pittsburgh area that he was considering for development. But the incident occurred during the very early hours of the morning, so does his lawyer know of anyone that likes to view potential real estate at two o’clock in the morning?

More details of this alleged fight will likely come out over the next few months. But Revis probably will not be getting any congratulatory calls from the NFL thanking him for kicking off their annual offseason of arrests.
