“That’s why he’s top of my list”: AJ on Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua has the heavyweight boxing division around his finger; the Englishman can pick and choose whoever he wishes to fight next with a queue forming to challenge for the IBF, WBA, and IBO titles.

Following one of the greatest heavyweights fights in Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko, there has been much talk of a rematch between the pair; with the Ukrainian and Englishman giving boxing fans a taste of the golden days, there seems high demand for a Joshua-Klitschko II to take place in Cardiff.

However, it would appear that Joshua’s eyes are elsewhere after defeating the 41-year-old; with a lot being made of Tyson Fury’s ‘comeback’, as the Gypsy King continues to post outlandish videos over social media as he tries to suggest he is on some road to recovery, AJ has hinted that this is who he would like to fight next with Fury heavily being on the champion’s radar:

“I listen to what people want. Tyson makes a lot of noise and he’s made it clear that he wants to fight me.

Now, I’m in a position that I can say: ‘Tyson when you’re back, I’m interested, so let’s live up to what people want to see us do’. That’s why he’s top of my list.

In the UK, Tyson Fury. Internationally, my pick would be [Deontay] Wilder. I’ve built a relationship with the United States.”

— Anthony Joshua, speaking to Sky Sports

With Joshua appearing to favour either Fury or Wilder as his next opponent; AJ still has to accept a fight from Klitschko, should the Ukrainian wish to challenge Joshua again.

If Wladimir decides against this, then Joshua could face Kubrat Pulev; the Bulgarian is the mandatory challenger to AJ’s IBF belt.

Regardless, following Anthony’s readiness for a Fury-Joshua showdown, Tyson is more than ready for the challenge, and the fight appears a dead certain; it’s just a case of ‘when’:
