Baseball’s best late round gems

The MLB First-Year Player Draft is an exciting time for rookies. Like with any other sport, everybody talks about the high draft choices, but there are also plenty of late run gems to be found. In fact, you could put together entire hall of fame ballots based on late round selections who proved to be better than their billing.

For now though, we will focus on 12 unique names. Each one of these men were selected in 12th round or later, the ultimate definition of the late round draft gem. These men all posted some remarkable WARs (Wins Above Replacement) in their careers, and most of them are in the Hall of Fame.

This is a perfect example of why I am draft first, free agency maybe never, especially in 2017, where you can’t just go out and buy players. You must grow your own in this day and age.
