Andy Murray’s latest gesture is why we love Andy Murray

World No.1, Andy Murray, has had an indifferent year on the court since reaching the pinnacle of tennis. The Scot has failed to reach a major final this calendar year after an early exit in the Australian Open, followed by a five-set thriller loss to Stan Wawrinka at Roland Garros in the semi-final.

Regardless of Murray’s recent tennis battles this year, events which have surrounded the United Kingdom such as attacks in Manchester and London, followed by the Grenfell Tower disaster puts sporting matters into perspective.

The tragedies which have surrounded 2017 make tuning into the news a fearful part of the day, due to the regularity of disasters which have engulfed the headlines this calender year.

And, Sir Andy Murray is one of the recent sports stars to help with these awful moments. The tennis star has said he will donate all his winnings to the Grenfell Tower victims; winnings which could reach £350,000.

In a tournament which Murray has won five times already, few would bet against him despite his indifferent form this year. Murray’s campaign begins against Australia’s, Jordan Thompson, and the Scot will be hoping to make a solid start to the grass season as he bids to defend his Wimbledon crown next month.
