Heisman dark horses to reach superstardom as season unfolds

Michael Briggs

The winner of the Heisman Trophy is not always the most obvious candidate heading into the season. Just last year,¬†Louisville Cardinals sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson seemingly emerged out of nowhere to grab the early lead in the Heisman race. Although the competition wasn’t as fierce as other years, the highlight machine proved to be a worthy winner. This season, Jackson is a front-runner to repeat, but he’ll have to fend off guys like USC QB Sam Darnold and Penn State running back Saquon Barkley for the honor. Then again, it could be another dark horse who races to the front of the pack in 2017. These twelve guys fall in that category.

For every player on this list, there’s another two-three more dark horses who have the talent to join the Heisman race. Who do you think we missed?
