Kyle Sinckler ends tour on sour note following arrest

Kyle Sinckler had an outstanding tour of New Zealand; the Harlequins man looked at ease in the Lions shirt despite not even starting a test match for England at international level.

Sinckler always looked to take the game to either the Super Rugby sides, or New Zealand during the three tests; making the 24-year-old’s club and international prospects very exciting heading into the 2017/18 season.

With the prop’s strong performances, he received heavy media coverage throughout the tour. Such press meant Kyle’s reputation as a bit of hot head during his younger years was widely documented; often getting sent off, and it took a conversation with James Horwill and Adam Jones to calm the Harlequins man down.

And it would seem that this reputation hasn’t deserted the Englishman as Sinckler was arrested on the early hours of Sunday morning following a night out after the Lions drew the series with the All Blacks:

“I have spoken to Kyle and reminded him of his responsibilities as a Lion, which extend to his off the field behaviour. Kyle has apologised for any inconvenience caused and we are satisfied that he regrets this incident and that this is the end of the matter.”

— John Spencer, Lions tour manager

In what is a shame considering Sinckler had such a good tour on the field, and won many fans, it’s an example that tarnishes what was other excellent press coming out from fans and players in this tour of New Zealand.

Aside from the ‘Geography Six’, there has hardly been any bad press from this Lions tour, and it is a shame the prop has given a reason for media outlets to once again challenge a Northern Hemisphere mentality after a couple of drinks.

Fortunately Sinckler was not charged, and hopefully the Lions can put this issue to bed before returning back home.
