2016 has been a refreshing reminder that underdogs can still compete at the front in F1. That couldn’t be more evident than the start to Haas F1’s campaign, with the lightening quick Romain Grosjean proving to the world why he belongs at a top team.

The Frenchman followed up a sixth place finish in Australia (he had no right to be in the top 10 given Haas F1’s inexperienced car) by going one better in Bahrain, outperforming the big guns such as McLaren, Force India and Toro Rosso.

According to F1 pundit Johnny Herbert, Grosjean could fare even better this week in Shanghai, where the young Frenchman goes brimming with confidence.

“Haas have started their F1 life in incredible fashion with Grosjean taking back-to-back top-six finishes. With others faltering I can see the Frenchman hitting the field for six and coming home to score another brilliant points haul on a track where he’s scored points in three of his previous four starts.”

Grosjean has come a long way since his horror-show start in F1, with moves like this (watch what happens at 1:08)…

And this…

Once describes by Mark Webber as a “first lap nutcase,” Grosjean has sorted his s**t out to become one of the most respected drivers in F1. With Haas F1 being so closely linked to Ferrari, surely the Frenchman has earned his place in red with Kimi Raikonnen’s likely departure at the end of 2016?
