Massa is totally nonchalant about threatening Button rumours

Felipe Massa says he is unfazed by speculation that Jenson Button could replace him at Williams next year. Button’s now 36, and finishing his career at Williams would be apt, given he started his career there in 2000. Felipe Massa, 35, is being linked with a move to Renault next season, but has told reporters:

“We all know about rumours in formula one, and I am zero scared and worried about anything. It would be nice to stay, but it would be nice to stay in a team where you really see that you can do a good job and have a good future. I am ready for everything.”

Massa has this weekend to look forward to anyway, so he will be focused on scoring maximum points for Williams. He recently said,

“Montreal has always been a venue that is very favourable for Williams, and I will be heading there with some decent optimism. We will have something new on the car, and we expect excellent results from our Mercedes power unit as well, which has always been an important weapon in Canada.”

Button is unlikely to renew his contract with McLaren and who could blame him? McLaren have the young and promising Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne waiting in the wings anyway, and will be pretty eager to see what he’s made of after impressing in his stand-in race this season in Bahrain, where he scored a point on his debut.

McLaren’s boss Eric Bouiller has been quick to shift attention away from the situation, but the driver market in 2017 is set to be fairly open, with a lot of driver contracts running out.
