Christian Horner has sent a stark warning to the Ferrari team. He assures Red Bull’s rivals that they will only improve in the second-half of the season. Ferrari need to up their game if they want to remain 2nd in the Constructor standings.

Red Bull have outscored Ferrari by 36 points in the last three races and could find themselves sitting in 2nd if the German Grand Prix sticks to the form book. After a difficult 2015, team boss Christian Horner admits that this year has gone above and beyond what they expected. The team have already improved on last years tally, and remain the only team to beat Mercedes in a race after Max Verstappen’s meteoric rise at the Spanish GP.

He said,

“Pre-season we thought we’d lucky to be in the top five, so to be fighting Ferrari, one point behind at the half-way point in the season having won a race [is better than expected].

[Sunday] was our sixth podium finish of this season so far and to have both cars finish ahead in their respective battles with Ferrari was a great performance and great first half of the year for us.

We’re always confident the second half of the season should be stronger than our first half.”

Whilst Mercedes remain well and truly out of reach, going 150 points clear after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Horner is certain that Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen will deliver in the final ten races. He added,

“There are bits [of 2016 development] we’ve got in the pipeline but a lot of focus is already on 2017.

We’re also keen to challenge Ferrari and ensure we fight them all the way to Abu Dhabi.”

Given that the talk in the paddock during pre-season testing was that Ferrari would be the ones to take the fight to Mercedes, Red Bull have been the surprise package so far this season. Whilst Ferrari’s potential 3rd place finish doesn’t spell complete disaster, the Tifosi and Ferrari fans across the world will just have to put up with impatience.
