You won’t believe how dangerous Formula One used to be. Practically the Wild, Wild West, it was.
Or at least Nelson Piquet’s doing all the smacking around as Eliseo Salazar attempts to escape at the 1982 German Grand Prix. So this is what used to happen after drivers crashed into one another on the Formula One circuit. No tense post-race interviews or forced smiles before the press, a la Hamilton-Rosberg. No, they used to duke it out on the racetrack like men after emerging fresh from the smoking chassis of a totaled vehicle. If the stewards didn’t have to get involved, well, it just wasn’t a real race, was it?
