Mercedes: ‘We are not Favorites in Singapore’

Despite the dominance that Mercedes have shown all season, the team remain wary that Singapore is a bogey track that may not favor them. Red Bull and Ferrari are tipped to be on the same level as the Silver Arrows this weekend.

Hamilton and Rosberg sound as if they are expecting a challenge beyond each-other this weekend. Hamilton said,

“We didn’t have the greatest weekend there last year, so hopefully we’re on top of that now. I guess we’ll find out in a few days’ time! Either way, it’s not going to be an easy breezy drive. Even when we won there back in 2014, it wasn’t straightforward.

Ferrari and Red Bull will be on it I’m sure, so we’ve got a big fight on our hands if we are up at the front. I love a battle, so I’m excited to see how it plays out.

The Brit enjoys an on-track battle as much as anybody, but he’d be feeling the pressure if his Mercedes was on par with the chasing teams race after race. Rosberg added similar narrative with,

“Of course, it won’t be easy. This is a Red Bull track and we weren’t so strong there last year. But I have faith in the team and my belief in myself is as high as ever. I approach each weekend aiming to win the race.”

– Nico Rosberg

The more that the Mercedes drivers label the Marina Bay circuit as a Red Bull circuit, the greater the pressure will be on Red Bull to deliver. It’s all smoke and mirrors until the Practice sessions on Friday because these sessions will indicate whether or not Mercedes will be on the ball this weekend.
