Another piece of the 2017 BTCC puzzle today fell into place, with breaking news from former WSR driver Jack Goff…

Goff announced today he was leaving the WSR BMW BTCC team to head off to the Eurotech Honda squad to partner team owner Jeff Smith. Goff had endured an underwhelming 2016 at WSR, not being able to secure a win for the squad as teammate Sam Tordoff took the fight to Gordon Shedden for the title. The switch to RWD clearly wasn’t too smooth for Goff. He now moves to a more familiar FWD Honda, and hopes it paves the way for more success in 2017.

“We have been in talks with many drivers over the winter which has been a long process, but we wanted to get it right. Our aim was always to put a talented young gun in to the second seat which we have undoubtedly managed to achieve with Jack.”

– Eurotech Team Principal Jeff Smith

Goff has won a race, but that was back in 2015 with the troubled MG Triple Eight squad. 2016 was supposed to give him the platform for a title challenge but it didn’t materialise. Eurotech themselves had a patchy 2016, but when Dan Lloyd drove for them for three races, he took two frontrow starts and two top ten finishes, so the potential is certainly there for the team to do well again. The hope will to surely be recapturing the glory days of when Andrew Jordan was at the team with his PIRTEK sponsorship. The team have not won a race since race 3 at Croft back in 2014.

“The car is a proven winner, with Gordon [Shedden] having won the past two championships and with the Swindon engine I think we have a very competitive package for the 2017 season.”

– Jack Goff

The move away from WSR also means the likelihood of Colin Turkinton returning to the team has increased. Jordan is of course signed up there, and Rob Collard confirmed on Twitter that it is looking very promising for him to be back on the grid in 2017 – it is highly likely he will be racing for WSR as well, so expect a Jordan, Turkington and Collard lineup for 2017.
