British outfit Prodrive will designs an all new RX car from scratch for the  Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit for the 2018 World RX season. The current crop of RX cars look incredible, and the new Reanault Megane RX that will be arriving in the championship for 2018 fits the aesthetic bill too.

Prodrive come from a rich Motorsport pedigree and have achieved multiple titles in other racing categories, from six World Rally titles, Five World Sportscar titles, Four Le Mans and Touring Car titles, Chicheret’s Megane is clearly in good hands.

“It has long been an ambition of ours to compete in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. It is the fastest growing motorsport series in the world and gives us the opportunity to use all our engineering experience to create a car capable of winning the world title.  Guerlain is obviously a very talented driver and we look forward to working with him and developing a race car that both he and Renault will be proud of.”

Chicheret has already taken part in World RX with a few cameo’s last season, but the Skiing World Champion is pumped for a full campaign in 2018. He said,

“I’m so happy to be working with the guys from Prodrive to build what has been my dream for a long time. I know that with the right team and the support we have, we’ll be able to produce a car that will really make an impact in the paddock. I absolutely trust Prodrive to build the best car and I’m excited to bring my brand and partners to the Championship in 2018.”

With this addition to the future grid, the World RX following continues to grow and we can see why. The series opener in Barcelona on March 31st is hotly anticipated, especially after the rubber burning, driftaholic slalom of last year’s heats at the venue.
