A fitting season opener, the Daytona 500 will always be the flagship event of NASCAR. As a superspeedway track, anyone can win it, and previous years have seen some surprises.

As a restrictor plate track, the high speeds that once made the Daytona 500 a highly dangerous affair are now a distant memory. However, there is never any shortage of entertainment, with TV ratings consistently exceeding expectations.

If you are new to fantasy NASCAR competitions, our Daytona 500 preview will help you get off the mark in style. Even if you don’t participate in Fantasy NASCAR, knowing which drivers to back can make for a very lucrative day at the bookmakers!

Group A – Daytona 500 Preview & Picks

DAYTONA 500 PREVIEW

Recently, Denny Hamlin has adopted Daytona as one of his favourite tracks. His quest for an opening day win ended last year, as he swept to the chequered flag in style. Though he bowed out at the Eliminator Round in 2016, Hamlin ended last season in fine form.

Encouragingly for fans of the Florida native, Hamlin also led for the most laps in last weekend’s Advance Auto Parts Clash. As a Daytona-based pre-season event, it has often proved a good precursor to the Daytona 500.

With a better average finish at Daytona, Joey Logano is an absolute must ahead of Sunday. Additionally, he enjoyed a strong run to the finale and finished a personal high of second in the final table.

If his standing as the strongest form driver of Group A is not enough, Logano also won the aforementioned Advance Auto Parts Clash.

Group B

GROUPB-DAYTONA500

Austin Dillon boasts the best average finish at Daytona in the entire roster. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott continues to impress the world, having now claimed a second Daytona 500 pole in succession.

Having won at Daytona on two previous occasions, including the 2010 Daytona 500, Jamie McMurray is proving a popular reserve pick. So too is Kyle Larson, on the basis of his strong finish to 2016.
