Force India VJM10 Revealed: Meanest Front Wing Yet?

Force India’s 2017 challenger has been revealed today at Silverstone, and it has a very clever looking front-end.

That front-wing is mean, as is the shark fin. Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon will be piloting the VJM10. Perez is well established as one of the most exciting drivers on the grid. He was the best driver beyond the top three teams in the 2016 season, his points haul, including a couple of solid podiums, saw the Force India team surpass expectations and finish 4th in the Constructors title.

Esteban Ocon has a steep learning curve ahead. The French driver held his own against Wehrlein at Manor last season, but keeping up with Checo will be a different level.

Vijay Mallya, the team owner, hit out at Renault Boss in his unveiling speech, claiming that the French Manufacturer may need to reassess their target of 5th on the Constructors for 2017 if they are going to dismiss the “poor” teams without much thought.

Technical Director Andrew Green said,

“It’s definitely a big overhaul; one that requires a change in mentality. It took a bit of time to adjust at first, but we are there now and I am confident we know where to look and where the performance is coming from with this car.

The development slope is incredibly steep and we are going to see significant updates to the cars at regular intervals, right from the start; it’s going to be big updates and I don’t think development will start to taper off any time soon.”

If Force India can pull off another 4th place finish this season, they will have surpassed expectation again. The team will face strong opposition in Renault, who are perceived to be much more competitive this season due to a decent preparation window. With the comments from Mallya today, it looks like a big rivalry is already brewing.
