MotoGP Qatar GP To Take Place in the Wet

The first race in the 2017 MotoGP season is set to take place during the night and possibly the wet – something that not all riders are happy about.

As if MotoGP racing wasn’t dangerous enough, the FIM Safety Commission has somehow come to the conclusion that they will green-light Qatar should the track experience rainfall. The last time this happened back in 2009, the race was postponed by those with enough faculties supplying them the ever-elusive resource known as “common sense”.

It’s unclear as to where common sense has been siphoned off to, but there seems to be a clear deficit of it present in the FIM Safety Commission’s rulings. Two riders have been quick to catch on to the scent of something potentially disastrous heading their way and have spoken out against it. The dynamic duo being Aspar’s Alvaro Bautista and KTM’s Pol Espargaro.

Bautista fired the opening salvo, citing that such a decision should not be made so lightly:

“I don’t see it as being that simple, as you already suffer a lot from reflections even when you are riding a street bike in those conditions.

I don’t see it as something positive, but we will not know for sure until we try it.” – Alvaro Bautista

Following his lead was KTM’s Pol Espargaro, who was flummoxed that such a decision had been reached without any consultation of the riders on FIM’s behalf:

“At the end it will be a matter of consensus among the riders, so I don’t even know why riders were not asked the question.

Once we are there we will talk about this during Friday’s commission meeting.” – Pol Espargaro

There has not been an official response from FIM as of yet, but it is widely assumed that they are scrambling to bollock whoever came up with this plan.
