In Pictures: Pobelter Steadies Immortals’ Core As The Rumoured Roster Takes Shape

There hasn’t been a great deal for Immortals fans to smile about during the offseason. AD Carry Jason “WildTurtle” Tran made himself the fourth member of the 2016 roster to part ways with last season’s newcomers. Yet from the darkness of a bleak period, the dawn may be about to break for Immortals fans – the team are set to announce their roster for 2017 and it’s looking far better than expected.

Amidst rumours that he was set to join Echo Fox as a Support, Eugene “Pobelter” Park is understood to have re-signed for two more years with Immortals – the core around which the team will build their new roster. In a Skype conversation leak, Pobelter voiced to his friend, Yuri “KEITHMCBRIEF” Jew, that he felt undervalued – though it appears those concerns have since been addressed.

Pobelter remains as the only original member of Immortals after Support Adrian “Adrian” Ma, star Koreans Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin and Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon and most recently, Wildturtle, announced their departure from the team.

“We have another 2017 pre-season announcement: Jason “WildTurtle” Tran is moving on after spending 2016 as our AD Carry.

“WildTurtle’s megawatt smile and bright personality made him one of the most popular Immortals, and the house will be a little darker without his presence.

“We wish him nothing but the best and thank him for his hard work and tireless effort during his time on Immortals.”

Immortals Official Announcement

Immortals are yet to officially announce their roster for the 2017 Spring Split, though they have committed their attendance to Intel Extreme Masters Gyeonggi in South Korea on December 16th. The team will be travelling out to Seoul to bootcamp ahead of their tournament appearance.

Many expected the roster to disband entirely after a disappointing 4th place standing at the end of the 2016 Summer Split, causing the team to narrowly miss out on World Championship qualification. In a Facebook video, later deleted by the organisation (possibly to tie in to the impending roster announcement), frames from the footage clearly portray Pobelter as Immortals’ core figure moving forwards.

Around Pobelter, Immortals are set to announce a stacked roster, arguably upgrading with their import slots. The rumoured Immortals roster for 2017 is as follows:

If Immortals deliver on their proposed roster, they will be a team to watch – not just for IEM Gyeonggi – but as a contender for the NA LCS title.

A successful season would be the least the team deserves after such a series of heavy blows. Their fans have certainly been patient… it looks like the wait might have been worth it.
