Congratulations everyone, we made it through February! The shortest month of the year more often than not feels like the longest, no thanks to mother nature and the brutal spells of arctic cold and blizzard like conditions.

Now that it’s March, it’s time to look ahead. March is a great month. There’s St. Patrick’s Day, Pi Day, Spring Break, March Madness for you basketball lovers and baseball season gets underway.

But for golfers, March is arguably one of the greatest months of the year, as it finally signals a shift towards the golf season.

Without further ado, here’s our countdown of the top 6 reasons why March is an awesome golf month.

6. WGC-Cadillac Championship (March 5-8)

The first of the years four annual World Golf Championships, the WGC-Cadillac is always one of the premiere events of the early part of the golf season. This year will mark the 16th WGC-Cadillac Championship. Amazingly, seven of those have been won by Tiger Woods.

Held at Trump National Doral in Florida, the Cadillac is an exceptional tournament because of the talent pool. The top 50 players from the World Golf Rankings makeup the majority of the approximately 70 invitees. Patrick Reed won the event last year, and will have an excellent chance to repeat with the way he’s been playing this season.

5. Jesper Parnevik Reality Show (March 16th)

This is not a joke. Jesper Parnevik, who turns 50 years old on March 7th, is starring in his own reality show. Debuting March 16th and airing on TV3 in Sweeden, “Parneviks” will focus on Jesper, his wife, Mia, and their four teenage children. The show will also feature many other of Sweden’s biggest celebrities.

Parnevik, who won 5 PGA Tour events an 4 European Tour events was, and still is one of golf’s most colorful characters. He remains well known for his signature upturned bill on the baseball cap as part of his unique and eccentric fashion wardrobe.

We’re excited to see him on the Champions Tour, but even more excited for his debut on our television sets.

4. Bobby Jones Birthday (March 17th)

113 years ago on March 17th, Bobby Jones was born and the game of golf was never the same. Jones won 13 majors during his playing career, including the first ever Grand Slam in 1930. He founded the Masters Tournament, first played at Augusta National in 1934. During World War II, Jones even served as as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Forces.

On March 17th, which is also St. Patrick’s day coincidentally, let’s have a drink or two for Bobby – who knows where we’d all be without him.

3. Spring is in the air (March 20th)

Need we say more? While the first day of spring doesn’t automatically mean it’s going to be 60 degrees and sunny, it’s more the mental part of it. That yes, it’s finally spring. Unless you live in Florida, Texas or California, odds are you’ve been impatiently counting down the days till winter is in the rearview mirror.

With spring finally arriving, it may be time to go get the golf clubs out of the garage and wipe the dust off. And once the snow finally melts, you’ll be able to start planning your weekend round of golf with your buddies. Congratulations friends, we made it.

2. Jack Nicklaus Receives Congressional Gold Medal (March 24th)

Jack Nicklaus will receive the Congressional Gold Medal on March 24. That’s cool, right?

The medal is the highest civilian honor delegated by Congress, and is an appreciation to distinguished citizens. Nicklaus joins Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson as the only golfers to earn the recognition.

“I had the fortunate pleasure in 2012 to attend and participate in Arnold’s Congressional Gold Medal ceremony, and I witnessed how special and meaningful it was to him,” Nicklaus said. “I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to experience that, as well, and to be a part of a very special group of past recipients.”

Maybe Jack will celebrate with a couple pints of his new ice cream.

1. It’s Almost the Masters (April 9-12)

The greatest reason of all that March is an awesome golf month is that it signals the Masters is just around the corner. What more is there to say? The Masters is the Super Bowl of golf. The Daytona 500. The Kentucky Derby. The The Pamplona bull run. You get the idea. For four days, the entire sports world turns its attention to Augusta National for the greatest golf tournament in existence. Bubba Watson enters this years field as the defending champion and will be looking for his third green jacket.

Listen to the Masters theme song. If this doesn’t get you in the mood for Augusta, nothing will.
