The PGA Tour heads back to Texas this week for the annual Crowne Plaza Invitational. A daunting three-hole stretch on the front nine at Colonial Country Club has holes 3, 4, and 5 nicknamed the Horrible Horseshoe. ShotTracker data backs up the claim that it’s the toughest three-hole stretch in golf.

Hole 4 – 247 yd par 3

“It’s 250 yards. You don’t have to do anything to make that hole hard.” – Adam Scott, defending champion

“It’s just long. A pretty hole, though. But all you think about is getting your ball on the green. Doing that is really good.” – Zach Johnson, 2012 champion

Hole 5 – 481 yd par 4

“You stand up there and all you think about is the Trinity River running down the right side and you don’t want to cut too much.” – Jimmy Walker

“It’s just brutal. It’s a tough tee shot. Nobody wants to leak it right, so they end up hitting it left, and you are not in a very good spot over there, as well. It’s just overall a tough hole.” – David Toms
