With affair rumours swirling over his head, Tiger Woods managed to put them aside and fire a 69 to trail leaders Jhonatten Vegas and Scott Langley by four shots at the Greenbrier Classic.

Reports surfaced earlier in the week that Lindsey Vonn gave Tiger Woods the boot after she caught him having an affair with Jason Dufner’s former wife, Amanda Boyd.

It was back to business at The Greenbrier for Woods, however, who trails Jhonatten Vegas and Scott Langley by four shots.

Vegas, the popular Venezuelan, had five birdies and no bogeys for a nine-under-par halfway total of 131. Langley, who owned the first round lead after a 62, carded a hard-fought 69 to maintain his position atop the leaderboard.

Vegas and Langley were being chased by a closely bunched field, with a group of seven players just one stroke back, including Canadian David Hearn and American Jonathan Byrd.

Woods – coming off a dismal U.S. Open and an impending scandal – managed to avoid missing back-to-back cuts for the first time in his illustrious career. His roller-coaster 69 headed a group on 135 included several errant tee shots including finding the water off the tee at 17.

Woods’ 36-hole total of 135 is his best result on the US tour since he opened with a 135 at the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship.

The focus unfortunately will be on the tabloid rumors that continue to swirl around golf.
