“This Girl Golfs” – Raising Awareness Around Women’s Golf

England Golf, Scottish Golf Union and Sports Publications have launched a national campaign, aimed to promote participation of women’s and girl’s golf.

The #ThisGirlGolfs video, featuring Charley Hull, Henni Zuel and Carly Booth shows women golfers on the course from all walks of life and aims to inspire more women to take up the sport.

Taking inspiration from Sport England’s campaign #ThisGirlCan, the #ThisGirlGolfs project aims to breakthrough stereotypes and show the wider world that golf is a game for all, accessible to all and within reach of any budget.

Launched to coincide as the top players in the world head to Turnberry for this weeks Ricoh Women’s British Open, the project looks to stop the decline increase the amount of female players.

A recent report, by Sports Marketing Surveys, revealed some worrying facts on the current state of the women’s golfing industry in England;

  • Women represent just 15% of golf club members
  • Only 1/25 female golf club members are juniors
  • There has been a 27% decline in female memberships

However things could be looking up for the girls. A survey last year revealed that 640,000 females were interested in taking up golf. With more support from professionals players such as Charley, and more positive advertising campaigns we will hopefully more young girls show interest in the game.
