How Millennial Star Inbee Park Dominated Women’s British Open

At just 27-years-old, millennial star Inbee Park won her seventh major championship after seeing off a couple of charging Ko’s – including world number 2 Lydia Ko and unknown Korean Ko Jin-young.

Inbee Park has now won six of the last 14 majors, an astonishing feat for any golfer let alone someone who is still three years shy of 30. Park is now only three majors short of Annika Sorenstam’s modern-day record tally of 10 majors.

“It feels great, this is something I have been dreaming of all my life. I finally reached my goal. It’s just a relief. I’m so happy with everything,” Park told BBC Sport following her win.

The world number one was remarkable on Sunday at Trump’s Turnberry. She reeled off seven birdies and an eagle in a near-flawless 65 that gave her the joint lowest round of the week. In the end, it gave her a three-shot victory over 20-year-old Ko Jin-young, whose first-ever major ended with a 71 to leave her at nine under.

18-year-old prodigy and world number two Lydia Ko shot a 69 to finish four shots back.

Suzann Pettersen – who was arguably the favorite to win the championship – had a disastrous day on the greens to card a 72 and finish fifth, a shot ahead of overnight leader Teresa Lu.
