The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational may have been a triumphant cornerstone for Shane Lowry last week. But PGA of America will be moving it up to the end of June to make way for a much more universally celebrated event, the Rio Olympics. Everyone’s heard of the Olympics, even your ex who broke up with you after one too many soccer games with your mates. But the Rio Olympics will be an especially historic occasion for golf enthusiasts because it will be the first time since 1904 that golf will be featured as an Olympic sport.

To add insult to injury, the WGC-Bridgestone will still not be demanding anyone’s undivided attention because it will also coincide with the French Open next year. This means that the money won at Bridgestone will not count towards Ryder Cup points or the Race to Dubai.

Well, one good thing might come of this for Shane Lowry. If he does get selected to represent Ireland in the Olympics, he could make this time of the year his time to shine.
