You know the old saying “you are the combination of the 5 people you hang out with most”? Well, I think I’m the combination of my three best golf buddies.
Not only do I spend at least 5 hours per week or more with my regular crew but they have become the people that I lean on most. They influence my style on and off the course whether it’s the new set of clubs I’m looking at or a new car. They are the ones that give me advise when things at work aren’t going as planned or my lady makes me sleep on the couch.
It was only by chance that I stumbled into my group of amazing golf pals. Things like Golf Match didn’t exist a few years back when I was just out of college in a new city. It took a few years after graduating to find them. There were times when I didn’t play because I was over spending half my weekend with random strangers that didn’t match my handicap level, pace of play or reason for playing in the first place. It’s amazing how different a round is when you play with somebody you click with vs the guy that doesn’t smile and throws his club in the ground after each bad shot.
People always say that the golf course is a great place to get business done. For me, it’s been a great place to become who I am as a human being. My years as a young adult have been shaped by the buddies I play with because of their creativity, and excitement not only for the game but enthusiasm for kicking butt in life generally. For that I will forever be grateful. Because of them I am a better.
If you are looking for a good golf crew check out your local Meetup groups, play in a NextGen tournament, or download the Golf Match App … doesn’t hurt that they have a contest running right now worth $2,500 bucks in killer prizes.
