Jordan Spieth’s quest for the American slam is well and truly alive as the American put on an epic show at Whistling Straits to go into the weekend near the top of another major championship leaderboard.
Spieth is undoubtably the hottest player in the world at the moment, and he lived up to that hype Friday when he sent fans into a frenzy after holing a bunker shot on 18. That ignited a back nine surge which sent Spieth into a share of the lead for much of Friday before David Lingmerth surpassed him at seven-under-par.
Meanwhile, playing partner and world number one Rory McIlroy had an up-and-down day. The Northern Irishman shot another 71 to sit at two-under-par, within striking distance of the early leaders Friday.
