Phil Mickelson Trash Talks Jason Day After Controversy

Controversial decision leads to a very harsh put down by Mickelson

Phil just came out with a very uncharacteristic burn.

“I feel like we spotted the Internationals’ best team two holes and they still couldn’t beat us. Just saying,” – Phil Mickelson discussing his blunder on Day 2 at the #PresidentsCup

The scathing comment came after he and partner Zach Johnson were unfairly penalised in a bizarre ruling that gifted  a two hole advantage to opponents Jason Day and Adam Scott. Mickelson was wrongfully asked to pick up his ball on the 7th fairway because he had chosen a slightly harder ball for his tee shot. The official got it wrong, plain and simple. What followed was a gutsy round of golf that saw the American pair come back from 2 down and halve the match. Oh yeah and Phil only went and holed another bunker shot to salt the wounds of their fortuitous opposition.

The performance came as the US had their lead for the week reduced to one with losses felt by the big gun pairings of Rickie Fowler/Jimmy Walker and Jordan Spieth/Dustin Johnson. Things are hotting up going into the weekend with the score at 4-3. This week has shown that Mickelson and Johnson are a tasty pairing and Phil’s combative attitude could be just what the Americans need for the Ryder cup in 2016.
