Does The Worse Miss You’ve Ever Seen Spell The End For A Legend?

Ernie Els is going through one of golf’s great afflictions, the yips.

The four-time major champion missed a two foot putt at the CIMB classic yesterday and it can’t look good for the future of the 46-year-old. The big easy has been slipping down the world rankings since his last victory at the 2013 BMW International and it’s deeply saddening for us all.

The term ‘yips’ is dated back to legendary 1920’s golfer Tommy Armour, who many believe had one of the best swings to grace the game. The psychological battle of putting from under 6-feet has messed with a lot of talented ball strikers; Garcia, Langer, Duval and Watson, the list is full of major winners.

The issue for Ernie is that he’s approaching the end of his career, we hope he can find a way to get out of this rut because he still has something to offer the professional game.

This isn’t the first time in recent months he’s struggled- he choked on a similar putt earlier this year. His stats don’t lie either his putting is seriously affecting his game. Best of luck to the big fella and we hope he can overcome those demons.
