- A 25-year-old British man stole a golf buggy after sinking post-round beers.
- He was twice the legal limit and faces a £325 ($560) fine.
James Hazzleton sank several pints at his local golf club before making a decision he will live to regret. Rather than pay for a £6 taxi he decided to use his position as course marshall to avoid the ‘arduous’ mile he had left to get home.
The golfer immediately confessed to the officers using the sort of subtlety you can only muster when beer has been consumed: “I am a p***k. I nicked a golf cart”.
Mary Buxton, defending, said: “Alcohol was involved – he was going home when he took the golf cart which had a key in. “He had a mile to go home and jumped in. Police happened to see him as he arrived at his home address.”
This all smells very habitual to me. If you work on a golf course the temptation stares you in the face every day, i’d wager this isn’t the first time he’s lazed his ass home. Unfortunately for Hazzelton he got caught red handed and when you don’t have a driver’s license you’re going to have a bad time.
Measuring twice the legal limit, the Essex man has been banned from driving for 18 months and will have to cough up a total of £450.
