The British Open is allocated to one of ten different golf venues each year but that number is about to be nine. The American bought Turnberry last year and quickly changed the name to ‘Trump Turnberry’. Yep that’s right, there is literally every chance the ‘T’ sound was what attracted the man to make the purchase. I personally think he should have chosen Carnoustie (think alliteration).

Turnberry was expected to be named as the host venue for 2020 but reports suggest one of the game’s authoritative bodies, the Royal and Ancient, have decided to strike Turnberry off the list.

According to The Independent a recent meeting concluded that Trump’s controversial comments had made the prospect of Turnberry hosting the event ‘impossible’. One unnamed R&A member reportedly said: “Those who forecast worse would come, including warnings from our American cousins, have been proved correct.” Before adding, “One word was thrown around: Enough.”

The R&A will have viewed the risk of Sponsors and players boycotting the event and have taken the decision based on those grounds. More than 550,000 people have signed a government petition calling for Trump to be banned from the UK for inciting hatred. The motion will almost certainly be brought before Parliament but most experts believe it will not be passed for the same reason Trump can’t ban Muslims from entering America.

Here’s what Boris Johnson had to say. The eccentric Mayor of London has been opposed to Trump after his comments about ‘Muslim no-go zones’ in the city of London.
