- David de Gea was close to joining Madrid on the final day of the summer transfer window.
- The deal collapsed after Man Utd failed to complete the required paperwork.
- The Spaniards proposed contract has been revealed by website Football Leaks.
By all accounts, David de Gea should be playing under Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu right now. Such was the assurance that the Spaniard would be joining Los Blancos, bookmakers stop taking bets on the transfer and eager Madrid fans joined the queue for new goalkeepers shirts.
In a dramatic sequence of events, both sides claimed they hadn’t received paperwork from the other party. In limbo between the two clubs, de Gea was left in no-mans-land between the two domestic giants, unsure of his future.
Fingers pointing at one another, Madrid blamed United for not returning all the documentation whereas Old Trafford officials insisted they had signed all the relevant documentation, it all got a little difficult to follow!
Whistle-blowing website Football Leaks, David de Gea stood to earn £66.7m if his move from Manchester United to Real Madrid had gone through.
The leaked contract claims that De Gea would have signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu and received £9m annual salary on top of an £8.4m signing-on fee.
Both clubs have refused to validate the document, although the authenticity of the signatures within the document suggests that is probably legitimate.
In September, the Manchester giants looked to lock down the impressive goalkeeper. In September, De Gea signed a new four-year contract with United, estimated to be worth in the region of £200,000-a-week… we’ll have to wait for Football Leaks to get their hands on the document!
