Arsenal Set To Snatch £8Million Wonderkid From London Rivals

Arsene Wenger is reportedly lining up an £8million move for West Ham starlet Reece Oxford.

The Gunners’ chief scout Steve Rowley has admitted to being a big admirer of the 17-year-old and has been closely tracking the youth players’ development.

The potential move reinstates Arsenal’s determination to snap up some of the Premier League’s best emerging talent to strengthen their youthful squad.

In January, Arsenal moved to bring Leicester’s teenage full back Ben Chilwell and Fulham’s impressive Ryan Sessegnon. Nigerian youngsters Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze also joined the North London giants on permanent deals.

Oxford’s outstanding performance for West Ham in their opening day win at Arsenal may have been a major factor in Arsenal’s decision to acquire the midfielder. Gunners boss Wenger regards him as a huge prospect and an astute business move to bring to the club at an early stage.

Arsenal looked at Oxford before he signed a contract at West Ham and now they head a queue of big clubs who are keen to get his pen to paper.

It has been reported that Manchester United and Manchester City have also been watching Oxford closely.

Oxford, who displays a chilling composure on the ball, would fit seamlessly into the Arsenal squad. Captain of England’s Under-17’s, Oxford’s contract expires in 2018; West Ham will need to renegotiate soon or risk losing him for free well under value.

There are rumours that Reece Oxford is becoming increasingly frustrated at West Ham. The Hammers blocked Oxford from going to the Under-17s World Cup in Chile, where he was set to captain England’s team.

This transpired in early October and since then he has not started a single Premier League game despite impressively leading West Ham to victory on his debut.

This is further encouragement for Arsene Wenger, keen to set up a deal that might be completed in the summer.
