Breaking! Wayne Rooney Could Miss The Rest Of The Season With Ligament Injury

Wayne Rooney may have played his last game for Manchester United this season after suffering knee ligament damage.

The Manchester United captain hasn’t flown with the rest of the squad to Denmark ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League tie with Midtjylland following his latest career hindering problem.

The injury is a major blow to United’s hopes of winning silverware and has potentially extinguished any flame of hope Louis Van Gaal had for this season; qualifying for next years Champions League qualification now looks to be out of reach.

It also casts a shadow over Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 plans with the England captain expected to be out until April at the very least.

It is suspected it that the injury was suffered in training ahead of the Midtjylland game but it hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Van Gaal is set to reveal the full details at his press conference on Wednesday where he will no doubt be pressed to find out the extent of the damage. England manager Roy Hodgson is understood to have been kept updated.

Rooney has scored seven goals in his last nine games and his absence leaves Van Gaal with a shortfall in attack for the rest of the season. The Red Devils will have to rely on Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay and Will Keane for the majority of the rest of the season.
