You’d think it was no contest if a country singer and Jordan Spieth decided to have a friendly game of golf. But they did exactly that on Spieth’s annual pilgrimage to Cypress Point in preparation for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. However, the cards did not fall quite as you or maybe Spieth himself would have expected. Jake Owen, a good friend and Pro-Am partner of the week, won a round against Spieth and took home some sweet cash from the World No. 1’s sizable wallet. He was not shy about talking about it either.

You might be ask how such an improbable thing could have happened. This is how the duo explained it.

“Jake was given nine shots,” Spieth said, “Notice he’s playing off a two this week so he did good negotiating to start.”

“I was four up after four holes,” Owen interjected.

“He was beating me from the same tees through six holes. He was a couple under on his own ball. Then it came down to the last hole. I had a putt to win from about 12 feet and I missed it and Jake celebrated and that was about it.”

And we guess that is about it, until next year.
