Giovani Dos Santos Is A Mexican Soccer God

Giovani Dos Santos is the Kanye West of Mexican soccer.

Loved, hated, always trending. He made waves in the MLS last year when he signed with the LA Galaxy from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth over $4 million per year.

LA’s huge Mexican fanbase was invigorated by the move, but the rest of the MLS was less than excited about the prospect of the Galaxy adding another bonafide international star to their roster.

Additionally, Giovani’s decision to sign with the Galaxy came much to the chagrin of many Liga MX purists – why would one of Mexico’s brightest young stars sign with…the MLS?

Dubious at best, traitorous at worst.

Everyone knows the MLS is basura. A trash league full of trash players.

Well, try telling that to Kaka, Sebastian Giovinco, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Villa, Robbie Keane, Clint Dempsey, and Michael Bradley.

At any rate, Gio finds himself in the unenviable position of playing for an American side on Mexican soil tonight as the Galaxy take on Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champion’s League.

Don’t take my word for it – I’ll leave it up to the fans in Mexico to tell you how they really feel about their very own Benedict Arnold.
