The Portland Timbers have reached (currently undisclosed) terms with Leicester City to acquire winger Jack Barmby on a season-long loan. It’s believed that the Timbers have an option to buy the 21-year-old player after his loan is up.
The defending MLS champs have been busy this week, resigning two key midfield players just yesterday. This flurry of activity just days before the MLS season kicks off is clear evidence that Portland is not resting on their laurels but rather gearing up for another title shot.
Barmby, son of former England National Team midfielder Nick Barmby, hasn’t been able to crack league-leading Leicester City’s first team but has been a mainstay on their U-21 side.
He’s also been featured on England’s U-19 and U-20 squads
Sometimes it’s better to be a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond, as Barmby will likely have the opportunity to play a major role with the Timbers.
