A feeling of dejection and mutiny overwhelmed the Emirates as hosts Arsenal suffered a  2-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Watford on Sunday.

The FA Cup was supposed to be a welcome relief from the pressures of Arsenal’s mounting league torubles, but the reigning consecutive champions exited with a whimper to a gallant display from last season’s Championship’s runners-up.

The pressure on Arsene Wenger has intensified following Arsenal’s recent poor form and with a Champions League exit on the cards at the hand Barcelona on Wednesday, Arsenal only have the Premier League to play for – catching Leicester seems unlikely at this point however.

Controversially, Arsenal fans hoisted a banner at Hull on Tuesday night saying: “Arsene – Thanks For The Memories But It’s Time To Say Goodbye”.

Following Arsenal’s defeat, Instagram account Arsenal Worldwide reposted an image of the banner and Beckham had some choice words on the matter:

Ex-tabloid editor and TV personality Piers Morgan, a ‘self-proclaimed’ fanatic and outspoken critic of Wenger, responded to Beckham on Twitter, calling out the former England captain:

Morgan proceeded to launch a series of attacks on Beckham and anyone who tried to stick up for the national icon:

Beckham, who retired from the professional game in 2013, never played for Arsenal, but did train with the Gunners on two separate occasions as he looked to keep up his fitness during the MLS off-season. His son, Brooklyn, also spent time playing at the Arsenal Academy before being released.
