Collectively, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have scored an astounding 103 goals in total so far this season, set to eclipse their previous record of 122 in all competitions last season.

The trio’s goalscoring form has been the cause for a media frenzy over recent months, with many pundits praising ‘MSN’ as the most potent strike force the world has ever seen – they may well be right.

Even the most bitter of cynics daren’t argue against the effectiveness of the South American forwards, but the theories behind what makes them so clinical in front of goal have varied from the plausible to the completely inane.

Perhaps the most infuriating theory of them all is the theory that ‘friendship is power’… and to the sheer disbelief of everyone hardened by the real world, it’s the line that even Neymar himself is preaching:

Messi, Neymar & Suarez: Best Friends Forever

Neymar has explained how Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and himself have become best friends off the pitch and credits their success to their close bond.

“Not only on the field, but mostly off it. Today I can say we became friends, and when that happens in football you help your mates even more during the matches.

The Brazilian was clearly feeling very sentimental about his two teammates:

“We developed a strong bond, being three South American players and ‘rivals’, it’s something very hard to accomplish, but we did it, playing together and forging a good friendship.”

Neymar

Absolutely stomach-churning drivel from the Brazilian poster boy. Whoever fabricated this friendship campaign within the Barcelona PR team deserves a medal however – the global media are eating it up.

Even Barca’s defensive midfielder Ivan Rakitic is keen to shove “MSN’s” friendship in our faces.

“It may sound like an exaggeration, but they are the best friends in the world, the best friends in the history of football.”

Ivan Rakitic

I’m not sure how much more of this ‘sunshine and rainbows’ philosophy I can take…

A Scientific Study Shows That MSN Are Probably Lying To Us

Shock horror, Messi, Neymar and Suarez may not be as close as Barcelona would have you believe.

As the old idiom goes: There are two kinds of people in this world – those who feel the need to brag about their friends and those who don’t.

In a new study conducted by The Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin reports that when people frequently feel the need to share their relationship highlights to the global media, psychology is involved.

“Relationship Visibility”

Specifically the scientists refer to this phenomenon as something called “relationship visibility”, which signifies that people anxious about their friendships are more likely to remind others that they are, in fact, part of a close bond with other human beings.

To quote the study’s authors:

“On a daily basis, when people felt more insecure about their friend’s/partner’s feelings, they tended to make their relationships visible,”

Laura Emery, Study Author

As part of the social experiment, the researchers asked participants to fill out an online survey, every night, for two weeks straight. This trial reaffirmed their theories that, ‘more secure and stable’ participants reported posting less about their friendships and relationships.

Emery added:

“On days when people felt more insecure about their relationships and friendships than usual, they posted more about those relationships on social media.”

Hmmmm…

The study showed conclusively that if someone feels the need to reiterate the strength of their relationship or friendship to the media on a consistent basis, then the bond between those individuals is likely to be far weaker than they would have you believe.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s patience finally snapped ahead of Real Madrid’s first leg tie with Roma, when the Portuguese star exploded with anger at accusations that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar had a superior goalscoring record… because of their superior friendship.

Ronaldo’s outburst turned out to be one of the most prophetic press conferences in history:

“How do we know that [their relationship] is that way? It is only because that is what is written,”

“Does it matter that I don’t go out for dinner with Benzema or that Bale does not come around my house? It is not important. This thing about the little meals, the little hugs, the little kisses. To me that doesn’t mean anything.”

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo has summarised the whole ‘MSN friendship fiasco’ perfectly…
