He was the biggest thing to come out of Ireland since Guinness.
Here’s where it all started for Robbie Keane:
Keane made is professional debut in 1997 for the Wolverhampton Wanderers. It didn’t take long for him to find his stride.
The following year, he was the club’s leading scorer, and in the beginning of the 1999-2000 season, he was SOLD TO COVENTRY CITY FOR THE PRINCELY SUM OF £6 MILLION.
Keane’s ’99 transfer set a record for the highest price ever paid for a teenager.
He lasted only one season in Coventry City with the Sky Blues before being SOLD TO ITALIAN GIANT INTER MILAN FOR £13 MILLION.
The five-year deal Keane inked with Inter was immediately put in jeopardy when the man who signed him, Marcello Lippi, was sacked as manager.
In December of 2000, just 5 months after arriving in Milan, Keane was LOANED OUT TO LEEDS UNITED.
Robbie scored in 9 of his first 14 starts at Leeds United before the loan was made permanent in May 2001 to the tune of £12 million.
His production dropped off the following year, but Leeds United found themselves facing a bigger problem: CRIPPLING DEBT.
With their backs against the wall, LEEDS UNITED WERE FORCED TO SELL KEANE TO TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR before the 2002-2003 transfer deadline expired for £7 million.
In Tottenham, Keane finally found a home.
He would stay for 6 years and play in more than 200 games before moving again.
In that time, he would cement his status as one of the most productive players in the Premier League and a Tottenham legend.
In 2008, KEANE WAS COURTED AWAY FROM SPURS BY LIVERPOOL in a scandalous affair that resulted in Tottenham lodging an official complaint with the Premier League.
Amid allegations of wrongdoing, LIVERPOOL PAID TOTTENHAM £19 MILLION in July of 2008 for Keane.
But the Tottenham-Liverpool tug-o-war over Robbie Keane was not over yet.
In February of 2009, KEANE RETURNED TO SPURS after they paid £12 million to Liverpool as the cyclical negotiations between the two clubs took their final form.
By this time in his career, CLUBS HAD PAID OVER £75 MILLION IN TRANSFER FEES FOR ROBBIE KEANE.
Less than year later, and despite signing a four-year deal with Tottenham, Keane was on the move again, this time loaned out to Scottish club Celtic F.C.
Come January of 2011, just 11 months after being loaned to Celtic, Keane joined West Ham on loan as the club desperately tried to stave off relegation
Four months later, West Ham were relegated and Robbie returned to Tottenham, but not for long.
In 2011, Keane signed with the LA Galaxy in MLS.
In the five years since his arrival in Los Angeles, KEANE HAS BECOME ONE OF THE TORCHBEARERS FOR MLS, helping blaze a trail from Europe that’s been tread recently by the likes of David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, and Frank Lampard.
While his club career has been in flux for the past 20 years, Keane’s service to his country has not.
Keane was part of the Irish youth squad that won the U-18 UEFA championship in 1998.
He scored 3 goals in 4 games in the 2002 World Cup, immortalizing himself as an Irish king.
Keane became IRELAND’S ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER in 2004 and earned his 100th cap in 2010.
In between, he MARRIED SUPERMODEL GIRLFRIEND and former Miss Ireland contestant Claudine Palmer in 2008.
Good on yeh, Robbie.
In 2013, after playing his 126th game for his country, Keane became the most capped Irish international of all time.
So today, everyone drinks for ROBBIE KEANE: A FUCKING IRISH LEGEND.
Where has Robbie Keane had his greatest success?
