Donald Trump has become a particularly divisive subject of late. With the entire country split between rooting for him and Hilary, you’ll find nary a neutral man standing when his name is brought up. That’s why it seems strange and a bit disconcerting when no one playing his favorite sport can muster up much of an opinion about him one way or another. When several PGA Tour golfers were asked what they thought of him, they were not forthcoming, hiding whatever their true feelings happened to be beneath a wealth of evasive platitudes. Devil-may-care John Daly and foreigner Rory McIlroy were two refreshingly straightforward exceptions.
On the intersection of sports and politics: “Hopefully they don’t intersect at all. Should be the beauty of the sport.” In other words, he’s staying firmly on his side of the fence.
On Trump’s impact on golf: “I don’t really get into politics, so doesn’t really bother me.” In some circles, sticking your head in the sand is the way to go.
When asked if Donald Trump would show up at Doral, an uncharacteristic move for the businessman: “It is going to be different because we’ve never had this. For it to be in the middle of the race, yeah, it will be different, but I’m pretty sure he would show up at one point.” Well, we’re sure it will be different, Bubba. But how exactly do you feel about different?
As for Rory McIlroy, Trump is far from the only problem with the 2016 Presidential Race. “I’m not American. I mean, he’s not going to be the leader of my country, so it doesn’t bother me too much. I thought I knew what politics were until I started to watch some of these presidential debates. I’m not saying that the political system in Northern Ireland is too strong at the moment either, but it’s shocking. I can’t vote, and if I were to vote, I’m not sure I would want to vote for any of the candidates.” For someone who isn’t really affected one way or another if Trump is elected, he sure is feeling strongly enough to tell it like it is. Getting warmer…
Finally, someone with a stance! John Daly has never been one to care what you think and he still isn’t pulling any punches, if this tweet is anything to go by.

Agree with his politics or not, you have to admire the man’s candidness.
