Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign 17-year-old attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic out from under Borussia Dortmund.

Few know Pulisic’s game better than Klopp, who managed the Borussia Dortmund from 2008 to 2015.

Borussia Dortmund signed a 16-year-old Pulisic in January of 2015 while Klopp was at the helm. After racking up 10 goals and 8 assists in just 15 games with Dortmund’s youth sides, Pulisic was tapped to join the first team during winter break.

Pulisic made two second half appearances in pre-season training matches with the Dortmund’s senior squad and netted himself a goal and an assist.

One day after making his debut on Dortmund’s first team bench (January 2016), he played a full 90 minutes in a friendly against Union Berlin. Here’s how that went:

Though Klopp had jumped ship to Liverpool by the time Pulisic played an entire game with Borussia Dortmund’s senior squad, the German manager has been in Pulisic’s corner since Day 1.

Without Klopp’s blessing, Pulisic would have never gotten the initial call-up to the first team.

Liverpool’s manager isn’t the only Jürgen taking notice of Pulisic’s talents – United States men’s national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann issued a vote of confidence in Pulisic, awarding him his first cap with the USMNT by brining him on as a sub in the second leg of the World Cup qualifier against Guatemala.

It’s safe to say that Pulisic is trending upwards. He’s a lock to make the USMNT squad for the Copa America. Where he plays his club ball remains to be seen.

If he keeps playing well, Borussia Dortmund will be lucky to hang on to him.
