BREAKING: Barcelona Bars Big 3 Star From Copa America

Barcelona is the saltiest club on earth.

They put Neymar between a rock and a hard place, forcing him to choose between playing in the Copa America Centenario or the Olympics that are taking place in Rio this summer.

Unwilling to turn his back on his country, Neymar chose the Olympics.

An official club statement from Barcelona reads as follows:

“FC BARCELONA THANKS THE BRAZILIAN FOOTBALL CONFEDERATION AND ITS PRESIDENT, MARCO POLO DEL NERO, FOR HAVING ACCEPTED THE PROPOSAL THE CLUB MADE SO THAT NEYMAR WOULD ONLY PLAY THE OLYMPIC GAMES THAT TAKE PLACE BETWEEN AUGUST 3 AND AUGUST 21”

“AS A RESULT, NEYMAR JR. WILL BE EXEMPTED FROM PLAYING THE COPA AMERICA THAT TAKES PLACE IN UNITED STATES BETWEEN JUNE 3 AND 26”

This is bad news all around.

I understand why Barcelona is acting like an asshole; they gotta protect their investment, yada yada yada…

Bullshit.

Neymar’s already proven himself to be an emotionally volatile diva; the last thing they want is a star player with a bone to pick.

Does this look like someone who’s capable of turning the other cheek?

Or someone who will carry a grudge to the grave?

Forbidding Neymar from representing his country at the 100th edition of the Copa America is not a transgression he’ll take lightly.

How would you feel if your boss told you not to do something you really wanted to, just because they can? Probably like this:

You want him to run hard for a full 90?

Forget about it.

He’ll always remember how Barcelona did him dirty.

The Fallout

Barring a series of colossal fuckups, Neymar will never have to worry about money.

Meaning he can spend his time worrying about something else, namely people who have crossed him.

Barcelona may have given Neymar his first big shot (and paid an arm and a leg for him) but he owes them nothing. He could literally kill a man and clubs would still be chomping at the bit to sign him.

Neymar strikes me as the kind of guy with a one strike policy, and Barcelona may have just struck out.

Is it fair for Barcelona to make Neymar pick between the Rio Olympics and Copa America?
