Arsenal fans hail Mesut Ozil as the king of assists and judging from the astonishing 277 clean-cut chances the German has created for the Gunners during his short Arsenal career, the grand title seems rather fitting.
There’s long been a feeling with Arsenal, admittedly shared by their fans, that despite their numerous title collapses over the years, they’re continually in a state of just being one or two players shy from Premier League domination.
The story is the same every year though for Gooners, despite preaching all year, every year – their cries seem to fall on deaf ears… or more specifically Wenger’s deaf ears.
It’s difficult to argue wth angry Arsenal fans that their club is in desperate need of a ‘world class striker’ when you consider the ‘Mesut Ozil Conversion Statistics’. Bad news for Giroud, Walcott, Welbeck…
Since making his Premier League debut in September 2013, Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil has created 277 goalscoring chances (including blocked shots that fell kindly for his teammates). Yet of these, chances, just 32 have been converted into goals for the Gunners.
That’s a pitiful conversion rate of just 11.55%.
To have such a talented playmaker in your ranks, creating goalscoring opportunities as regularly as Mesut Ozil does, Arsenal’s goalscoring record and league position doesn’t make great reading for Gooners.
Just imagine the legend Thierry Henry, in his prime combining with Ozil or a lethal striker such as Sergio Aguero being picked out by Ozil’s vision.
But who knows, the summer transfer window is only a few weeks away, Wenger may have lined up Arsenal’s problem-solving striker.
Or he could recall Yaya Sanago….
