Another British Golfer Wants To Get “Hammered” After First Professional Win

Do you recognise Johnston’s doppleganger?

Another “normal” English bloke has one a golf tournament and it’s glorious. Two weeks ago Danny Willett became the first Englishman in 20 years to put on a green jacket. The 28-year-old celebrated in emphatic style, in fact he got so rowdy on the Sunday police had to be called in the early hours to investigate a noise complaint.

Andrew Johnston’s recent win does little to buck the trend. Seeing off Sergio Garcia to take the Spanish Open at Valderrama, “Beef” as he is affectionately known, made no secret of his celebratory intentions:

“I can’t wait to get back to North Mid and get hammered. See my mum and brother, spend time with them and just celebrate.”

We’re big fans of this kind of “normality” getting a platform. It brings the golf fan joy to see a 220 pound dude standing there with an ear-to-ear smile. Beef isn’t going to pretend he’s heading back for an ice bath and a green smoothie, he’s just won his maiden European Tour event and he plans to celebrate accordingly. That’s why we love players like Shane Lowry and Charley Hull, they don’t filter their lives to align with sponsors, they tell it like it is. If they want to go out and party because they’re ecstatic good luck to them.
