Ahh the modern world of football and social media struck again over the weekend, when Memphis Depay deleted all United-based posts from his Instagram account – there were rumours the Dutchman also unfollowed all his Red Devils team-mates, however, he never followed them in the first place.

It’s all starting to sound like we are back at school…

Anyway, Depay’s social media activity was timed perfectly with rumours of a swap deal involving Southampton’s Sadio Mane, following an extremely disappointing debut season from the forward.

Despite those underwhelming stats, it doesn’t look like the former PSV man plans on leaving Old Trafford anytime soon.

Following the rumours regarding his social media activity, Depay responded by uploading nine individual pictures to his Instagram account, creating the following image…

Does Depay have a United future?

Manchester United are hardly picking from Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo and a Wayne Rooney at the peak of his career anymore. So there’s certainly a place up for grabs for Depay, but will he take it?

The 22-year-old has shown glimpses throughout this campaign of creativity, skill and goals. However, the inconsistency is his huge downfall, with van Gaal seemingly no longer willing to give him a chance – prior to his 90 minutes against Aston Villa on April 16th, Depay last played 90 minutes for United in the Premier League on the 2nd March.

Depay clearly possesses the raw attributes to succeed. However, like so many younger players, the bravado that comes with the lifestyle of flashy cars is hindering him. A new manager, one that perhaps puts an arm round the shoulder of a player, could see the Netherlands international thrive in Manchester, but if van Gaal stays, it could all be over for Depay before it ever got going.
