Brazilian soccer legend Rivaldo has warned tourists to stay away from this summer’s Olympics in Rio for their own safety after a 17-year old girl was killed in a gangland robbery over the weekend.

“I URGE ALL OF YOU WHO ARE PLANNING ON VISITING BRAZIL OR COMING FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES THIS SUMMER TO STAY IN YOUR COUNTRIES. YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK HERE.”

Rivaldo

Rivaldo’s warning comes after Ana Beatriz Pereia Frade was killed Saturday morning at a checkpoint set up by armed bandits on a main road that connects the city’s airport to most of the Olympic venues.

Local reports indicate she was killed in a robbery gone wrong after 8 men surrounded the car she was traveling in with her family on the way to surprise her mother at the airport, who was returning from vacation.

Ana was riding in the backseat when she was killed by a single bullet fired by one of the bandits after her step-dad tried to drive away from the blockade.

Rivaldo, who lives in the United States with his family, did not mince words when he described the current state of Brazil:

“THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE ALL THE TIME IN BRAZIL.”

“ONLY GOD CAN CHANGE THE SITUATION OF BRAZIL.”

Rivaldo

Dark times indeed when Rivaldo tells you Brazil’s not safe.

Would you go to Brazil right now?
