Jason Day wins The Players without breaking a sweat (nearly)

Jason Day held off early round jitters to become The Players Champion. The Aussie was +1 after eight holes before the 9th started to look a bit reminiscent of Jordan Spieth at this year’s Masters. Day chunked three consecutive chips before finally slotting it home to keep the damage to a bogey.

From then on he was masterful, 3 birdies on the back nine ensured he saw off a list of challengers who never really got near the world number one.

Jason is met by his son Dash on the 18th green.

This year’s tournament had everything, low scoring on the first two days was followed by a brutal 3rd round. The average for the day was 75, four shots higher than Thursday and Friday.

Two course victims included Sergio Garcia and Russell Knox, the Spaniard managed to 5 putt from close proximity whilst the Scot put three consecutive tee shots into the water on the par three 17th.

Much of the discussion this year has focused on the tournament’s current status. Should The Players be considered a Major? The best field in golf consistently competing on a world famous course…surely it’s a matter of time?
