Ronaldo is the pocket king, collecting checks to the tune of $88 million. That’s $1.69 million per week, or a little over $240,000 per day.

Messi wasn’t far behind, earning $81.4 million.

Rounding out the top five are LeBron James, Roger Federer, and Kevin Durant.

When you factor in Messi’s penchant for creative accounting, he probably netted more than Ronaldo. That 0% effective tax rate really affects your bottom line…

Other noteworthy entries include Neymar, who is the second youngest athlete on Forbes’ Top 100 list, and Colombian star James Rodriguez, who is the fourth youngest athlete on the list.

What we learned

Outside of Ronaldo and Messi, top tennis and golf players typically earn more than top soccer players. This makes sense when you consider there are 22 players on a soccer field at any given time. When you watch golf or tennis on TV, you’re focusing on one, maybe two players at a time.

Soccer may not be top dog in the United States, but globally, it reigns supreme.
