Harry Kane Won’t Play Again At Euro 2016

Harry Kane’s time on the pitch in France has come to an end, at least it should be if Roy Hodgson has anything remotely resembling a backbone.

The Three Lions gaffer pulled the Spurs striker off at half-time, with Jamie Vardy, Kane’s replacement, taking less than 15 minutes to make more of an impact than his international team-mate did in the prior 135 minutes of the tournament.

The Premier League’s top goalscorer can count himself lucky – as can several other members of the starting XI – that he kept his place for the crunch clash in Group B. During England’s opening fixture with Russia, Kane epitomised the prick in the school playground who, because he brought in the ball, gets to take all penalties, free-kicks, corners…everything!

After proving that he’s so much more than a one-season wonder, Kane appears to have had a mentality change – and that’s something you’d expect; he’s no longer the promising star, he’s the best English striker in the Premier League. However, with this newfound – for want of a better word – arrogance, Kane has seemingly convinced himself that’s he now a complete, all-round striker.

Kane’s struggles for England this tournament are surprising, given the fact his partner in crime at club level, Dele Alli, is just behind him – Alli however, is also failing to make an impact in France. Kane’s a striker that scores a goal when you least expect it; he pops up when you’d given up all hope. It’s a superb trait, and makes him of the most effective strikers. However, for whatever reason, it just doesn’t quite fit for the Three Lions.

Five goals in 14 games for England suggests Kane certainly has something to offer Roy Hodgson’s side. However, there simply isn’t time to try any further formations and personnel to crowbar Kane towards success.

Marcus Rashford was an exciting pest when he came on, whilst Vardy and Sturridge scored the vital goals, so it’s not like Hodgson doesn’t have options.

Kane won’t start another game for England this tournament, and he’ll be lucky to even get anymore minutes under his belt.
